During the Roaring Twenties, musical life burst out in New York. Hundreds if not thousands of musicians composed new melodies, songs and tunes, which were performed on pianos in Tin Pan Alley; these pianos, often not tuned, sounded as if pans were being tumbled.
Tin Pan Alley became the birthplace of modern music, where mutually pollinating genius spirits richly draw on each other’s worlds. Unusual and free-spirited dances (the charleston, the grizzly bear dance, the turkey trot) found their place in vaudeville and musical. Think of Josephine Baker who introduced bold new styles, but also Isadora Duncan and Ruth Saint Dennis.
Tin Pan Alley Parade is an ode to the daring, the innovators, the madmen, the seekers, the changers, the wonder and the curiosity.
